My Background and Experience

I trained as a chartered accountant with Thomson McLintock (later part of KPMG) and worked for them for sixteen years in the UK and the USA. I spent two years as a director of a food processing business which sold into the major supermarkets and caterers and I was subsequently a partner in a medium sized accounting firm heading up its consultancy practice.

Since 1994 I have combined my own independent practice with a number of part-time directorships. For eleven years I was Finance Director of Westminster Children's Society, a large charity providing daycare and other children's services. For seven years I was Finance Director and a shareholder in a medium sized insurance broker before organising its successful sale in 2005. Between 2004 and September 2016 I was Finance Director of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

In the late 1980's I studied for an MSc in Organisational Behaviour and have maintained an interest in the design of work and the importance of people within organizations.  My special knowledge of the accounting and reporting environment for charities was confirmed in early 2008 with the award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Diploma in Charity Accounting.

For twelve years until 2004 I was a trustee of one of the largest UK charitable housing associations and, for nearly seven of those years, its elected chair.

The following pages describe the services I can provide, give some examples of some recent work and tell you what others have said about me.
